Teachers F.A.Q
What does a Respected session look like?
A 10-15 min Film, presented by two young adults, with pauses for interactive activities. The Film introduces all the key vocabulary and concepts that will be covered. After this, the Follow-On material is used to take the class through more activities to reinforce and explore further the learning from the Film. Each session links to the Student Help section of our website where they can find out more information or be signposted to support services.
What support do you give staff and do you need specialist RSE training to deliver the programme?
The lessons are designed to be easy to deliver for any non-specialist. Our team are the specialists so the programme has been carefully planned and thought-out for you. Full Teacher notes are available which give details of research data, where applicable, key points to note about particular topics and how to draw out the key learning from each session.
Our ‘Non-Specialist Teacher Tips’ empower all teachers to feel confident delivering sensitive topics. In addition, our team can offer online training which can be tailored to the needs of your school. Contact us here for prices and to book training.
Can the lessons be adapted for different ability groups or SEND students?
We give a suggested route through each lesson, starting with a short film and then use of the Follow-on material. However, this can be broken down by a teacher if they do not want to tackle all the content in one session. Activities can be facilitated in different ways, removing the need for writing or in-depth discussion where appropriate.
What is the time commitment for teachers in preparing for the Respected sessions?
10-15mins. The Lesson Planning pages on the website make this very easy. If possible, we would always advise teachers to watch the entire Film (always <15mins) and read the Teacher Notes in advance of the session. However, the programme has been designed with the realities of teaching in mind and so, although not ideal, if necessary, could be used with minimal or no preparation.
Do we need specialist RSE training to deliver the Respected programme?
No, the lessons are designed to be easy to deliver for any non-specialist. Our team are the specialists so the programme has been carefully planned and thought-out for you.
We provide hints and tips for handling more sensitive content. See ‘Non-Specialist Teacher Tips’ doc in membership section of website.
Are you a training provider for specialist RSE delivery?
Our team can offer online training which can be tailored to the needs of your school. Contact us here to enquire about cost and/or book training.
Can we track student progress through the programme?
We are currently working on an assessment tool that will allow tracking for each Year group of the programme. We will provide a baseline assessment tool to be carried out prior to the first session and then a formative assessment to be completed at the end of the 3 or 4 sessions. This can be used as evidence of learning and also to highlight any areas which may need covering in more depth, depending on the particular needs of students in your setting. There may be a small cost associated with this tool as it is an add-on to the programme itself.
How should I handle ‘triggering’ topics during the sessions?
The detailed Teacher Notes for each lesson explain clearly when more sensitive content is introduced so you have plenty of warning. Each session suggests students may have an ‘opt-out’ to leave the class with your permission if there is anything they are struggling with. Please follow your schools’ safeguarding procedures regarding comments, behaviours or disclosures which may arise from the sessions. Each session builds in signposting to ‘Student Help’; places they can go for further support with the issues raised.

How much of the Statutory Guidance for RSE is covered by the Respected programme?
Approximately 80% of the Statutory Guidance or RSE is covered by our programme. You can see exactly how the programme maps to the guidance using this document. Respected’s focus is relationships; from friendships through online interactions, first romantic experiences to intimate physical relationships. We do not cover the different types of ‘marriage’, FGM and other specific crimes, safety from strangers or the details of online safety that are not relevant to relationships specifically.

Can the Respected programme be mapped to an existing spiral curriculum?
Yes, there are 3 or 4 sessions per year group that can be dropped into an existing PSHE framework. The content is highly age-appropriate and the session series is standalone, each covering a significant chunk of the RSE statutory guidance.
Can the lessons be adapted for different ability groups or SEND students?
Although the Film content is not adaptable, the pace of the lesson and whether students need additional scaffolding is down to the individual teacher. The Follow-on materials are highly adaptable and have been designed for mixed ability classes.
Is the content updated to reflect current social media trends (e.g., TikTok, ‘Incel’ culture, AI)?
Our programme was last updated in 2026 and is updated at least annually in line with current media and youth culture trends and feedback from teachers, students and our own educator team. It does not currently include ‘Incel’ culture specifically, but does try to address some of the underlying issues that can contribute towards this eg self-esteem, online influencers, understanding algorithms. We feel that this is a very complex area beyond the scope of an RSE programme which should probably be explored and tackled differently for each individual school setting.
Does the Respected programme tackle the controversial topic of gender identity?
No, this is not covered in the programme, however it is specifically designed to be inclusive, teaching principles of healthy relationships for all young people, however they might identify themselves. This includes gender neutral relationship scenarios and graphics.

Is the programme compatible with a ‘Faith’ or ‘No-Faith’ school ethos?
Absolutely. Our values-based approach (the implicit value of each young person, respect and commitment in relationships) translates across diverse school settings.
How does the Respected programme address misogyny and VAWG?
From Year 8 onwards, the programme highlights and challenges the existence of stereotypes, promoting empathy and respect for others’ differences. Domestic abuse is also covered from Year 8 onwards, looking particularly at healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviours from both sides. Students are encouraged to think critically about online influences, including pornography, and the impact these may have on their views of others and on real-life interactions in relationships.
How can we offer transparency for parents about what the Respected programme covers?
The Respected website has a dedicated section for Parents and Carers. We recommend sending a letter out to parents in advance of covering RSE content and providing them with a link to our website so they can see exactly what is being delivered. We also provide a detailed FAQ page for Parents which will hopefully answer any questions they may have.
